Jun. 8, 1999 - LTI Introduces CellOpt

Designers have, for the first time, the ability to optimize to power and speed under dynamic conditions using a spice level simulator. CellOpt automatically find the best device sizes to meet the speed constraints while at the same time minimizing power usage, and preserving the functionality of the cell.

CellOpt can handle any cell which can be described using our ACDL format, except memory cells. It has been shown to reduce power usage by as much as 50%, without effecting the critical path through the cell, or reduce the maximum delay by 50% with small change in energy use, depending on how bad the initial design was.

CellOpt works with standard circuit simulators. It uses numeric optimization algorithms, not heuristics as is commonly used. It is dynamic rather than static, and optimizes the circuit over a range of input states automatically determined by the tool.
